Lots of race shops in Brownsburg (NHRA, Indy, USAC, etc.) also won't be far from the speedway.

If you are into early history and how people lived back a couple of centuries ago, there is a fun place outside of Indianapolis called Conner Prairie. Check it out: www.connerprairie.org/‎

We took the kids several years ago & everyone enjoyed it a lot.

You might be looking for non-karting places to go, but heck, if you're passing through you might as well try these:

Very close to I-74 just West of Indy - stop in at Rapid Racing and meet proprietor Greg Wright, veteran of these forums.

A little further off of I-74, but perhaps worth stopping by:
Comet Kart Sales in Greenfield

Then there is New Castle Motorsports Park. Well worth stopping in and taking a look at this track and facilities if you've never been there.

The shops in Brownsburg (John Force, Schumacher, Ganassi 2, Rahal, etc.) might be worth stopping into, also it's the last exit of civilization between Indy and Peoria. I-74 is about the lamest interstate in the eastern US...
