CES 2013 Races # 5 & 6 at Grattan, Mi.
Best track around.
Usual\Regular\Clockwise direction.
Checkout this video of Grattan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44FVv1xaHSE
Track has been resurfaced since this was shot, but it gives you an idea of the challenge it provides.

I'll just make my position and won't pursue it further, unless the folks at C.E.S. want to discuss. I don't want to come across as a nay-sayer.

I like running Grattan in the traditional direction. I participate in our series for a few reasons (organized fairly well, relaxed attitude, etc.) but one of the big reasons are the tracks we attend. When I want to change things up a little, I'll go to a different event or track, but look forward to coming back to C.E.S. events for the reasons that I liked them in the first place. Though I'm sure there are many who think that this is a stretch, I liken this change to Bernie suggesting that Monaco or Monza be run in the opposite direction. It just feels wrong.

If the consensus is to still reverse direction, I'll play nice with one caveat. I need to know that a well-seasoned karter has tested it in the reverse direction and feels comfortable with safety. If this hasn't happened, and won't, I will continue to object. Remember that many of us were jazzed about GingerMan in reverse, only to find that the bump on the exit of 6 made that impossible along with the workers' locations making them blind to much of the on-coming karts.

I know a motorcycle guy who has run it in reverse and said it great both ways. Thinking about the track in reverse seems like it could work just fine. My one fear would be missing the now first corner could lead to a really wild ride.

I guess I'm a little conflicted on the thought of running it in reverse. In one way I like the idea of a new challenge and learning a new track. On the other hand I wont get to compare data verse running there last weekend (may 17-19). With some updates and changes on the kart planned it would be nice to compare times and data to the may race.

Either direction I still plan on being there in July. See you there.

Not sure this is a good way to increase kart count. People like this track for what it is. Now it is not what drivers come for. Different is not always a good thing. Karting has enough problems why make more. Just my 2 cents.
Safety is a concern.

We run Blackhawk twice. Run one event backwards there.

I ran Grattan for first time last year. I couldnt wait to challenge myself to be better this year. I guess Ill wait for next year WKA event!!!!!!

I will attend either direction. I guess you know how I feel.

Sorry Dave should have called you and voiced my opinion.

Looks like Dave and I got our wires crossed. Direction is open for discussion rather than set in stone it seems, sorry for the mix up.

Original thread title and content has been corrected.

Being a Grattan veteran I can tell you straight up running CCW is a great deal of fun. BUT......you can not RACE in that direction.

On multiple test days we have run CCW and most everyone agreed, heading off the front straight in "race mode" will kill someone. You don't need any help from another kart, you are on the verge of lifting off going down the hill to 9 and it takes just a hair off line and some of the best have cut grass at record speed.

Can you drive it CCW? Yes. Can you do it at 10/10ths??? Absolutely not.

There are a few places where passing slower traffic could result in well....ya know! It's very 1 line and very, very critical to not leave that line especially in the high speed sections.

A gang of guys can have a riot doing it all day in a "just for play" atmosphere. Coning down a perfectly good layout so you can run it CCW is just stupid.....and that's what you'd have to do to not overload the local ER.

Ya'll do what you like with July, I won't bother going if your running CCW.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've added a poll to the motorsportreg entry form so you can vote for your choice at entry time if you wish.

its a great, challenging, and technical track as is...no need to run it CCW. Just running through a mental picture of it in my head backwards...it would be fun but in my eyes dangerous. I can't even begin to type some of the problems that may happen. Id say run it CW and no one will complain anyway...how can you get bored of that track as is? lol

Direction we ran was always going to be up to the drivers at the end of the day, I should have explained that better.
Anyway, looks like we are running Grattan in it's original, everyday awesomeness.
Now who's gonna be there?
