I love this site....but I have to say that the SEARCH here leaves a LOT to be desired. Sometimes it gets me what I'm looking for, but lately it seems I usually get 0 or 10,000 results with very little matching to my query, even if I use ""'s or AND, OR, and specify CONTAINS ALL... I don't know if it's swamped, or what, but not a smooth experience. Any way to update that function? Maybe the new site will have a different one? Thanks,

You have to narrow your search to a specific forum section, and be direct in the key word you want it to find. Give me an example? _________________ David Cole

Tried ("MARI" OR "Mari" OR "mari") with no luck... when in most searches that would've turned up any post that had any of those included verbatim...
As I said, results have varied. Some searches are good, but I shouldn't have to narrow it to a specific forum -- it should search across all subforums for whatever "" verbatim I put.... I really do like this board, but the search frustrates me. _________________ Owner, www.hamiltonhelmets.com // UAS Racer #76 // Karting for karting's sake...keep it fun! |

If I use the ""'s I get zero results and if I don't put quotes it returns partial matches, which it shouldn't do unless I specify the "*" wildcard... _________________ Owner, www.hamiltonhelmets.com // UAS Racer #76 // Karting for karting's sake...keep it fun! |

First off, what is Mari? It helps to know what your searching for. _________________ David Cole

If the search worked like Google's, I wouldn't be here complaining...
I should be able to do "searchword" and get all results that contain exactly "searchword". I should be able to weed out results wtih "-thisword", and if I put OR I should get "thisword" OR "thatword", and if I want both "thisword" AND "thatword", but the search function doesn't operate like the preceeding directions say it should. Try it... There's a couple of threads with a title or content of "Mari". Do a search just on "mari", "Mari", or "MARI" and you'll get nothing. mari without quotes produces results with every word that contains mari, like MARIgold or priMARIly.... Frustrating. And this is true of lots of other search words too. I'm not sure what bogs it down or give hyperresults, I'd just like a reasonable search engine.
When's the new site coming? Perhaps my concerns will all go away then? _________________ Owner, www.hamiltonhelmets.com // UAS Racer #76 // Karting for karting's sake...keep it fun! |

New site is coming. To be honest, I never have heard of the kart or seen any topic regarding the kart. Thus why a search would pull up stuff not related to it. Again, this forum is 2002 technology. You best bet is to search on google and find out what you need that way. _________________ David Cole

I have a hard time using and understanding the search section too. {MAYBE ITS ME} I sometimes use google to due a search to weed out unwanted topics. a more user friendly search tool would be great. its a great site none the less, and I really enjoy reading the topics here.[/list] _________________ GROWING OLD IS MANDATORY.
