The International Racing Association Champion Racing/Intrepid Pro Shifter Series continued at Gingerman Raceway near South Haven, Michigan on May 13-14. A large field of almost 20 drivers lined up for the Formula One style standing start with a stacked field consisting of many of the best shifter kart pilots in the mid-west areas. Voytek Burdzy (Franklin/PCR/Pavesi) put it on pole winning the $50 contingency award presented by CKT Motorsports/Jim Perry. He was followed closely by Scott Barnes (PG Racing/Intrepid/SwedeTech Honda) from Bermuda. Adam Stopka (Franklin/PCR/Pavesi), Lance Lane (CKT/Veloce/CKT Honda) and Owen Wharton (PG Racing/Intrepid/SwedeTech Honda) rounded out the top five in qualifying.

With morning rain shortening all of the races to 20 minutes, the mindset was all about a sprint race. Patience went out the window at the start. After four of the top guys had been pushed off the track mid race, the race came down to Stopka and Barnes with a late charging Lane. Lane made a courageous pass attempt that wound up unsuccessful shuffling him back to an eventual sixth place finish on the last lap. The pass attempt did create some separation between Stopka and Barnes, causing Barnes to be out of reach for a last lap pass at the line. Stopka wound up on the top step of the podium capturing his first Pro Race win with additional contingency awards of $200 presented from Franklin Motorsports, $100 for finishing first with an additional $100 being on a PCR Chassis. Taking the silver prize was by Scott Barnes only 0.17 back. The final step of the podium went to Larry Nagy (MRP/Birel/Rocket Honda) who was presented the Hard Charger Award from PG Racing. Drivers Voytek Burdzy and Dan Barth (Greenflag/Birel/Pavesi) completed the top five.

Road America should have a great turnout as the race will be run at the end of practice Friday this weekend in conjunction with the Road America Supernationals. Qualifying for this race will be integrated into a practice session on Friday due to a limited time schedule.
